A rock band. A ukulele. Voices. Noises. "With An Orange" speaks in a language all their own, combining tightly woven harmonies, unabashed lyrics, and dance-ready beats. The Austin based band is a collaboration of Wes McGuffey, Johnny Jeffers, Austen Ross, and James Power Allen.

Wes and Johnny grew up playing guitars and writing music on the same street in Amarillo, TX. After landing in Austin, the pair met Ross, whose drumming ignited new sonic and rhythmic experimentation. With the passing of seasons and the addition of James Power Allen on lead, With An Orange came to fruition.

The band's debut EP, Away We Go! (Dabo Records) offers an imaginative departure from today's indie rock, using the ukulele as a principal writing tool. Wes explains, "The uke is a source of fresh ideas and new sounds for me. It's not just the atypical voicing, it's the way its voice bleeds into the other instruments of the band."

The ukulele's influence is unmistakable in the group's most recent endeavor. The songs blend glaring sentiment, soaring harmonies and bouncing rhythms throughout—readily apparent in "Adieu" and "Maria Montessori." The remaining tracks stand out as musical equals, ultimately leaving the listener thirsting for more. With the release of Away We Go! and supporting shows set to kick off in August, listeners will have a chance to get their fill.
